A Story About Sales

A Story About Marketing
The small drive into San Marcos was surprisingly fluid and efficient. Walking into the outlet mall felt like civilization had given it's last breath days ago. I knew sales would NOT be generated in this environment. Like a stubborn nail, I refuse to go down. The booth was surrounded by nothing. I assumed position anyways.
As time inched by, no prospects appear. I continue to read "Secrets to Closing the Sale" by Ziglar. Hours scrape by and the prospect count is still at zero. I grab my briefcase, take one last panoramic scan of the place, and jolt towards the parking lot.
The mental battle begins.
"Zero sales you coward!" "There was no one there." "You can NOT go back to Austin empty handed." "I will today." "You are a disgrace to yourself!"
The hot hand fallacy had struck me suddenly and viciously.
At a home and garden expo, ice cream festival, boat show, gun show, Formula One race, I do great. At the empty San Marcos Outlets on a Tuesday, nothing.
On the drive back to Austin, I wandered what I learned that day.
It's a good idea to have a list of prospects to call when there are no prospects physically present. Also, it's good to read daily.
Well, tomorrow's another day.
